$12 million aerospace recycling centre opens in Montreal

Over the next 20 years, 300 planes will be taken out of service
ST, HUBERT, Que.—A $1.4-million aerospace research and training centre is now operating near Montreal.
Labs at the newly opened Centre Technologie en Aerospatiale will research and develop methods of recycling old aircraft parts.
The federal and Quebec governments gave $12 million to fund the centre’s new research and development program.
Also, the Ecole Polytechnique de Montreal, one of Canada’s largest engineering schools, will receive $675,000 in federal funding to study the management of planes at the end of their life cycle.
Over the next 20 years, between 250 and 300 commercial planes will be taken out of service every year.
The school says its research will focus on getting maximum use out of those retired planes.
