Philadelphia-area transit provider too boost fleet with hybrid bus order
WINNIPEG—The U.S. subsidiary of Manitoba-headquartered bus manufacturer New Flyer Industries Inc. has won a major order from the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority.
The transit provider, which runs rail, subway and bus systems in the Philadelphia area has agreed to buy 90 Xcelsior XDE40 buses for approximately $50 million. In addition to the firm order, the agreement includes options for a further 460 buses—if exercised, the options would raise the value of the contract significantly.
“Our best-in class heavy-duty Xcelsior bus will directly support SEPTA’s strategic initiatives as they work to reduce their carbon footprint, and improve bus performance and reliability” Paul Soubry, the bus maker’s president and CEO, said.
New Flyer’s 40-foot XDE40 uses diesel-electric-hybrid propulsion.
The company plans to deliver the new buses between 2017 and 2020.
