New Flyer gets order for as many as 192 buses from Denver transit

Deal includes firm order for 52 buses, options for 140 more in diesel-hybrid, clean diesel or CNG
WINNIPEG—New Flyer Industries Inc. has won a five-year contract to build as many as 192 diesel buses for a public transit operator in the Denver area.
According to the Winnipeg-based bus maker, Denver’s Regional Transportation District (RTD) has placed an order for its 60-foot Xcelsior heavy-duty transit buses.
The deal includes a firm order for 52 diesel Xcelsior buses, of which 12 will be built using the company’s Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) styling.
The contract also contains up to 140 options for buses of diesel-hybrid, compressed natural gas (CNG) or clean diesel propulsion.
New Flyer said the the order represents the first time it will build buses for RTD.
Production of the 12 60-foot BRT-styled buses is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2014, with all buses being delivered by the second quarter 2014.
All buses will be manufactured beginning in the first quarter of 2014 and will all be completely manufactured and assembled at New Flyer’s St. Cloud, Minn., manufacturing facility.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
