CAMBRIDGE, Ont—Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada Inc. (TMMC) is adding 400 new jobs as it increases production of its RAV4 crossover utility vehicle at its Woodstock, Ont. assembly plant.

This $80 million investment will increase RAV4 annual capacity to 200,000 from 150,000 vehicles.

“We are optimistic that the market is coming back and we’re grateful for the strong sales of the RAV4 in the North American market, which has created this increase in production and jobs,” said TMMC Chairman Ray Tanguay.

TMMC currently manufactures the Toyota Corolla, Toyota Matrix, Toyota RAV4, and
the Lexus RX 350 vehicles in plants in Cambridge and Woodstock.

In February Toyota posted a 33.3% year-over-year increase in sales to 11,523 vehicles from 8,643, according to DesRosiers Automotive Consultants Inc.

The company currently employs approximately 6,500 workers in Canada.
