Quebec wooden door manufacturer invests $2.4M to install new line

SAINT-BONIFACE, Que.—A Quebec company that makes wooden doors has completed installation of a new line to breakdown logs at its manufacturing plant outside Trois-Rivières, Que.
Saint-Boniface-based Milette Doors spent $2.4 million on the project, which will increase its capacity in response to high demand.
The expansion included the purchase of a new high-speed chop saw and a scanner system that analyzes the size, colour and position of knots on logs. The line can process more than 300 of lumber feet per minute, increasing the company’s output while minimizing wood waste.
Milette Doors financed the project with a $1 million contribution from the federal government, $240,000 from Investissement Québec and a commercial loan from National Bank.
Having struck a partnership with another Canadian manufacturer, the company expects the added capacity to lead to a major push into the U.S. market.
