BELLEVILLE, Ont.—Cane sugar refiner Redpath Sugar Ltd. is expanding its dry blending and packaging plant in Belleville, Ont.
The company, which also operates a refinery on the Toronto waterfront, plans to spend $5.2 million on the project that will create 10 new jobs in the small city east of Toronto.
Redpath co-manufacturers a number of retail and private label products at the Belleville facility, such as iced tea, hot chocolate and drink crystals. The investment will allow the company to push into new areas through new pouch packaging technology and the installation of two more customized packaging lines.
“With the addition of this new packaging technology, our Belleville location will be offering innovative new options for our retail and private label partners as we invest to remain at the forefront of an ever-changing industry,” Jonathan Bamberger, the company’s president, said in a statement.
Redpath, which is owned by U.S.-based ASR Group, will invest approximately $4.6 million in the project. The Ontario government meanwhile, will contribute $624,263 through the Eastern Ontario Development Fund.
The food company expects to finish the work by late 2019.
