Green energy company expanding on projects in the Maritimes with new turbine project
HALIFAX—Bullfrog Power has announced a partnership aimed at developing a new wind farm near Ellershouse, Nova Scotia. Construction is set to start this year.
The agreement involves the Alternative Resource Energy Authority (AREA), and the towns of Berwick and Mahone Bay. Minas Energy will develop the wind farm, pending regulatory approvals.
“Having Bullfrog Power on board matters because they have a reputation for supporting community-backed initiatives and because the financial support they are providing to the project will go a long way to making it successful,” said Joe Feeney, mayor of Mahone Bay.
The seven-turbine wind farm will generate power for Berwick and Mahone Bay, with the option of other municipal electric utilities joining in the future. Through the agreement with AREA, Bullfrog Power, which has been operating in Nova Scotia since 2009, will purchase surplus renewable energy certificates (RECs) generated by the project.
