VÉLIZY-VILLACOUBLAY, France & SHANGHAI, China—Dassault Systèmes is opening a joint venture research and development centre in Shanghai, China.

The 3D design and product lifecycle management (PLM) firm is partnering with Chinese public engineering company Shanghai Municipal Engineering Design Institute (Group) Co. Ltd (SMEDI) to develop “industry solution experiences” for civil engineering and infrastructure construction professionals, based on Dassault Systèmes’ 3DEXPERIENCE platform.

Dedicated to bridge projects, water supply and wastewater treatment installations, roads, rail systems, as well as open and underground buildings, the R&D center will open in August 2012 and help engineers see the total end value of their designs.

SMEDI has managed more than 7,000 projects in China—many of them iconic—including environmental and water resources engineering projects to structural engineering and large scale transportation infrastructure.
