Canada entered the pandemic with the lowest net debt-to-GDP ratio of all G7 countries—an advantage that has since increased relative to other countries.

TORONTO — On Apr. 11, Yvan Baker, MP for Etobicoke Centre, and Marci Ien, Minister for Women and Gender Equality and Youth, met with Baka Mobile to hear about their environmentally conscious company policies and highlight commitments to reaching net-zero emissions by making the switch to zero-emission vehicles more affordable.

This is part of the government’s plan to help Canadians and Canadian businesses benefit from the global transition to a clean economy. Budget 2022 includes new incentives for the development of clean technologies and carbon capture, utilization, and storage.

Canada entered the pandemic with the lowest net debt-to-GDP ratio of all G7 countries — an advantage that has since increased relative to other countries.

With Budget 2022, Canada hopes to support economic growth and build an economy that works for everyone. Crucially, it will try to uphold the government’s fiscal anchor—a declining debt-to-GDP ratio and the unwinding of COVID-19-related deficits, which will ensure that Canada’s finances remain sustainable in the long term.

“Addressing climate change and growing our economy are not opposing forces—they go hand-in-hand to create good jobs while transitioning to a clean economy. This year’s Budget shows us that protecting the environment, supporting clean technology, and investing in zero-emission vehicles is not only the right thing to do but also a necessary step in building a greener future for everyone.” said Marci Ien, Minister for Women and Gender Equality and Youth.

“Baka Mobile in Etobicoke is an excellent example of a company that is taking the right steps toward building a greener Canada. Budget 2022 spells out exactly what our government intends to do to fight climate change, protect our environment, and make targeted investments in technology that will make our lands, lakes and oceans, and air cleaner.” said Yvan Baker, Member of Parliament for Etobicoke Centre.
