Canada and ACOA to invest over $3M in PEI’s bioscience sector

ACOA says that the agency expects investments in bioprocessing equipment will help skills development in this sector and support trainees as well as more experienced workers.
CHARLOTTETOWN — A recent announcement from Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency says that it will fund $2,335,000 to the PEI BioAlliance to establish the Canadian Alliance for Skills and Training in Life Sciences biopharmaceutical manufacturing training facility in Charlottetown.
Additionally, the federal government will provide an investment of $3,835,000 for two PEI-based bioscience projects.
A statement from ACOA says that the agency expects investments in bioprocessing equipment will help skills development in this sector and support trainees as well as more experienced workers.
According to ACOA, there is a manufacturing infrastructure gap in Prince Edward Island and a need for bioscience companies in the province to find commercial viability. In response to these issues, ACOA will also contribute $1.5 million to support the design and construction of the Bioscience Manufacturing Incubator.
“The success story of Prince Edward Island’s bioscience cluster is recognized across Canada and internationally. Strategic investments like those announced today will ensure a continued path of growth for the industry by attracting industry-leading companies and building a highly skilled workforce,” said Official Languages Minister Ginette Petitpas Taylor in a statement.
