Bottled water only for drinking after trouble at Manitoba town’s treatment plant
The advisory will remain in effect until the water supply no longer presents a health risk
THE PAS, Man. – Residents of a northern Manitoba town are being told not to drink tap water following a mechanical failure at the community’s water treatment plant.
The provincial government advisory for The Pas comes after a pump at the treatment plant broke down, preventing the facility from making potable water.
Officials say water is now being supplied to the town of some 5,500 people through a well where the water quality is unknown.
As a result, residents are being told to use only bottled water for drinking, food and drink preparation and brushing their teeth.
Commercial and public facilities that provide food and water have been told to follow more specific guidelines, and all residents have been urged to not treat tap water themselves.
The advisory will remain in effect until the water supply no longer presents a health risk.
