Magellan wins $200M contract to build exhaust systems for Airbus A320neo

TORONTO—Magellan Aerospace Corp. Ltd. has won a new contract to build exhaust components for European plane maker Airbus.
The Canadian aerospace firm said Sept. 20 it will design and manufacture exhaust systems for one variant of Airbus’ A320neo aircraft, a new version of the company’s popular narrow-bodied A320 commercial jets. Magellan expects the contract, which covers the life of the aircraft program, to be worth $200 million over the first 10 years.
“Magellan was successful on the merits of our technical expertise and our ability to manage the industrialization of these complex assemblies,” Phillip Underwood, the company’s president and CEO, said in a statement. “This new project aligns with Magellan’s strategy to invest in advanced technologies and manufacturing processes to support our customer’s requirements, providing cost effective products into the decades ahead.”
The contract covers the PW1100G-JM version of the A320neo, which uses Pratt & Whitney’s 1100G turbofan engine.
Magellan said it will build the exhaust systems at plants in Winnipeg and Middletown, Ohio and expects the first components to enter service in 2022.
