Canadian Solar, French energy giant EDF to build 191 MW solar project in Brazil

Construction on project in Brazil's Minas Gerais region to begin immediately
GUELPH, Ont.—Panel maker Canadian Solar Inc. and the renewable wing of French utility EDF have announced a new partnership to build a 191 megawatt solar generating station in Brazil.
After winning a power purchase agreement for the Pirapora I project last year, the Canadian-headquartered renewable company announced Oct. 11 it has agreed to sell an 80 per cent stake in its site to EDF Energies Nouvelles in order to kick-start construction. Canadian Solar will retain a 20 per cent stake in the project, as well as supply the solar modules.
Located in the eastern inland state of Minas Gerais, the companies plan to begin work on the project immediately. Once complete, the solar site will contribute 391,263 MWh per year to the South American country’s electricity grid. Canadian Solar said it will build the solar modules at its newly-built plant in Brazil.
The two companies expect to complete the project in the third quarter of next year.
