Innergex brings 40.6 MW hydro project in southern B.C. fully online

Run-of-river hydro plant is expected to power about 12,700 homes
LONGUEUIL, Que.—A new run-of-river hydroelectric facility outside Harrison Hot Springs, B.C. has reached full commercial operation.
After beginning construction on the new power project in June of 2014, Quebec-based developer Innergex Renewable Energy Inc. said Aug. 24 the 40.6 megawatt Big Silver Creek facility is now fully online.
“We are proud to have commissioned our 43rd facility, reinforcing our leadership position among independent power producers in British Columbia and in Canada, with a gross installed capacity totalling 1,359 MW,” the company’s president and CEO, Michel Letellier, said in a statement.
The hydro facility is located on public land about 40 kilometres north of the southern B.C. town of Harrison Hot Springs and is expected to churn out an estimated 139,800 MWh of energy each year—enough to power approximately 12,700 homes.
The Big Silver Creek plant is covered under a 40-year power purchase agreement with BC Hydro.
