Deere lays off 100 at two Iowa plants

MOLINE, Ill.— Deere & Co. has handed down more layoffs—this time at two Iowa manufacturing plants—as it adjusts to slower machinery sales.
The company, which released a better-than-expected earnings report last week, said 80 employees at the John Deere Davenport Works in Davenport, Iowa, as well as 20 workers at its Dubuque, Iowa plant will laid off indefinitely. Both facilities are part of the company’s construction and forestry division.
The job cuts follow a Dec. round of layoffs that dismissed 220 workers at Deere’s Seeding and Cylinder plant in Moline, Ill.
