New wind project boosts Canadian firm's capacity to 757 MW worldwide
VANCOUVER—119 GE wind turbines have begun turning in the Lone Star state, pumping 204 megawatts of energy into the Texas power grid.
Located in the southern state’s Clay County, the Shannon wind project is a 50/50 joint venture between Vancouver-based Alterra Power Corp. and Starwood Energy Group Global. Citigroup Energy, will sell the majority of the project’s output under a 13-year contract, however.
“We’re excited that the Shannon project is now operating at full capacity, delivering clean power in Texas,” said Jon Schintler, vice-president of Project Finance at Alterra, said. “I’d also like to thank Mortenson, GE and all of our teams for helping deliver this project on time and on budget, and welcome our new partners in the project, Citi and BHE Renewables.”
The plant’s commissioning boosts Alterra’s worldwide generating footprint to 757 MW.
