Country Ribbon chicken plant failed to meet deadline set by CFIA for documenting food safety improvements
ST. JOHN’S, N.L.—A chicken plant in Newfoundland and Labrador says its operating licence has been reinstated after a brief suspension.
The suspension was put in place Oct. 10 at St. John’s-based Country Ribbon Inc. and affected the facility’s ability to operate as a federally-inspected plant.
No products were recalled as part of the suspension.
Chief executive Ian Pittman said the suspension was implemented because the company did not meet a deadline set by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) for documenting food safety improvements at the plant.
In a statement posted on its website, Country Ribbon says it worked over the weekend to improve monitoring and record-keeping.
The company, which employs about 325 people, says it is resuming production.
