Insulation maker Roxul opens first manufacturing site in U.S.

$160-million, 600,000-sq.ft. Marshall County, Miss., plant Roxul's first in North America outside Canada
MARSHALL COUNTY, Miss.—The North American operating unit of stone wool insulation maker Rockwool International A/S has opened its first facility in the United States.
Roxul Inc. celebrated the official opening of its $160-million Marshall County, Miss., facility this week, the company’s third manufacturing plant in North America and first in the U.S.
Production at the site launched in June.
The company’s existing operations are in Canada, with facilities in Grand Forks, B.C., and Milton, Ont.
“This is truly a historic occasion for Roxul,” unit president Trent Ogilvie said in a statement. “When conducting our site selection due diligence, it was clear that … Mississippi and Marshall County provided us the optimal location from both a manufacturing and distribution standpoint.”
The 600,000-sq.ft. factory sits on a 100-acre site in an industrial park about 50 kilometres south of Memphis.
According to the company, the location will allow it to meet growing demand in the residential, commercial building, flat roof and industrial market throughout the U.S. Midwest and South, and in Mexico.
The Marshall County plant will employ 150 people, Roxul said.
Roxul’s insulation products contain as much as 40 per cent recycled material with zero waste to landfill during the manufacturing process.
