Bracewell Marine will build new tug boats for Ledcor at its Richmond, B.C., shipyard
VANCOUVER—The marine division of Canadian transportation and construction giant Ledcor Industries Ltd. has awarded a contract to Bracewell Marine Group Ltd. to build two tug boats that will run aggregates along British Columbia’s Fraser River.
According to Ledcor, Bracewell will build the two tugs, designed by A.G. Mcllwain Ltd., at its Richmond, B.C., shipyard.
The vessels will be used to move Ledcor barges loaded with aggregates to depots along the Fraser River starting in January 2016 as part of a 10-year contract the deal signed with Mainland Sand & Gravel Ltd.
Financial details of both deals weren’t released by Ledcor.
The twin 48-ft. vessels will be run by two Caterpillar C18 Acert diesel engines, with a combined output of 1,324-horsepower.
They will also feature two Caterpillar 30-kilowatt generators to run the electrical systems on board, and 1,500-ft. winches driven by Caterpillar 3056 engines.
