Bombardier nets German locomotive deal worth as much as $2B

Contract for as many as 450 electric locomotives by 2023

BERLIN—Bombardier has signed a deal with German firm Deutsche Bahn AG (DB) worth as much as $2-billion for the potential delivery of hundreds of electric locomotives.

According to the rail division of the Canadian transportation and aerospace giant, the first orders for 110 and 20 TRAXX locomotives for DB’s Schenker Rail and DB Regio, respectively, is worth $573-million based on list price.

The larger deal, including the initial orders for the 130 train engines, is for up to 450 locomotives by 2023.

DB’s locomotive fleet already includes more than 700 TRAXX locomotives, according to Bombardier.

The locomotives are designed for speeds of up to 160 km/h.
