From this step, EIC is able to reuse about 80 per cent of the methanol, saving the company a great deal of money.
“For conventional liquid catalysts, it costs about 22 cents a litre [of K0H and methanol] to make biodiesel…we can make it for 11 cents,” says Dwyer.
At the pump, EIC’s biodiesel is sold for 86 cents a litre, less than the price of regular diesel.
EIC’s reactor produces up to three million litres per year through a fully automated batch system.

In the next three to six months, the company plans to have facilities in Sarnia, Hamilton and Oakville, Ont.
With a rapidly approaching federal government mandate requiring two per cent renewable content in diesel by 2011, EIC is well positioned to exceed that standard by 98 per cent.
