Latest BlackBerry 10-enable devices approved to run on department's networks

WATERLOO, Ont.—As smartphone maker BlackBerry looks to bounce back from a dismal few years, the U.S. Department of Defense has approved the new operating system running its new lineup of devices.

According to the Waterloo, Ont.-based tech firm, the DoD has given the green light on BlackBerry 10 smartphones and PlayBook tablets running the latest of its reputed enterprise software, meaning defense staff will be allowed to run the new Z10 and Q10 smartphones, as well as the PlayBook, on DoD networks.

The announcement bodes well for the embattled device-maker, after a dismal run-up to its highly anticipated BlackBerry 10 launch that saw a number of corporate clients ditch its products over security concerns after a global network outage.
