CALGARY—Enbridge Inc. is investing $1.5-million in a local firm working to develop a new pipeline leak detection system.

According to IntelliView Technologies Inc., Enbridge will be providing the cash to support the development of the leak-detecting solution that uses multi-spectral sensors and proprietary video analytics.

“We are pleased that Enbridge has recognized the potential of our solution to address risk in this important area,” IntelliView executive chairman Bill Hews said in a release. “We welcome their support and engagement as an investor as we drive forward with North American oil and gas carriers in the deployment of this technology.”

Founded in 2003, Calgary-based IntelliView provides a full suite of solutions, including remote monitoring and leak and wildlife detection.

“Enbridge continues to invest in new technologies that are strategically aligned with the company’s interests and improve upon our existing practices,” Enbrdige vice-president of alternative and emerging technology Chuck Szmurlo said. “IntelliView’s thermal camera technology is an innovative leak detection solution for our industry and Enbridge is pleased to be an investment partner.”
