UBC Millwrights supports large-scale lithium-ion battery plant, Windsor

The joint venture company will produce lithium-ion battery cells and modules to meet a portion of Stellantis' vehicle production requirements in North America.
WINDSOR — Stellantis N.V. and LG Energy Solution announced they have executed agreements to establish a large scale, domestic, electric vehicle battery manufacturing facility in Windsor, Ont.
The joint venture company will produce lithium-ion battery cells and modules to meet a portion of Stellantis’ vehicle production requirements in North America.
“UBC Millwrights are leading the way in delivering mechatronics, robotics, and maintenance training programs that will directly support the success of Stellantis, LG Energy, and our Industry partners.” said Mark Beardsworth, executive-secretary treasurer, Millwright Regional Council of Ontario in a statement.
The joint venture company will invest over $5 billion to establish operations. Plant construction activities are scheduled to begin later this year with production operations planned to launch in the first quarter of 2024.
The Millwright Regional Council of Ontario stated that it looks forward to the construction of the facility to build electric vehicle batteries in Windsor, Ont. and collaboration with industry partners to provide installation and maintenance services to keep the industry moving.
