Swiss Chalet wins PAC award for sustainability for new paper packaging

The Canadian restaurant chain said that COVID-19 accelerated their process to replace packaging items with more sustainable materials as lockdowns and dine-in restrictions boosted demand for takeout deliveries. 

VAUGHAN —  Swiss Chalet alongside its packaging partner WestRock won the PAC Global Award for Sustainable Design at the 2022 Global PAC Award Summit held virtually on Feb.8.

“We are excited and honoured to be recognized for this award,” said Laurie Allison-Jones, VP of Marketing for Swiss Chalet in a statement.

“Swiss Chalet and Recipe Unlimited Corporation is committed to operating our business in a sustainable way and reducing our impact on the environment.”

Swiss Chalet said its new paper packaging is made from 100 per cent recycled paperboard which was originally launched in October of last year. The company said it plans to remove over 31 million units of plastic packaging each year from its deliveries.

“Partnerships like this, where we can support Swiss Chalet in their sustainability efforts, are one of the most rewarding parts of our business,” said Patrick Kivits, president of Consumer Packaging at WestRock in a statement.
