Semiconductor equipment sales up 44% says report from SEMI

MILPITAS — Research from SEMI indicates that sales of semiconductor manufacturing equipment increased by 44 per cent, meaning $102.6 billion in 2021 from $71.2 billion in 2020.

The industry association says that full details of the research are available in the Worldwide Semiconductor Equipment Market Statistics Report.

China had the largest growth in semiconductor equipment sales at $29.6 billion representing an increase of 58 per cent.

Korea registered sales of $25 billion, making them the second largest equipment market. Taiwan’s semiconductor equipment sales earned $24.9 billion, which brought them to the third place in SEMI’s ranking.

“The 44 per cent increase in manufacturing equipment spending in 2021 highlights the global semiconductor industry’s aggressive push to add capacity,” said Ajit Manocha, SEMI president and CEO in a statement.

“This drive to expand production capabilities extends beyond the current supply imbalance, as the industry continues to ramp up to address a wide range of emerging high-tech applications that will enable a smarter digital world with countless social benefits.”
