Amazon Canada to open new robotics fulfilment centre in Southwold Township, Ont.

TORONTO — On October 1st, Amazon Canada will open a two million square foot robotics fulfilment centre (YXU1) in Southwold Township, Ontario. In advance of the opening, Amazon aims to begin hiring in September with a goal of hiring more than 1,000 regular full-time employees.

YXU1 will be a sortable fulfilment centre, where Amazon employees pick, pack, and ship customer orders such as books, toys, and housewares. Employees will work alongside the latest advanced Amazon Robotics technology to process up to 750,000 items a day while leveraging the latest innovations that drive efficiency and safety. Employees at Amazon will also reportedly have the option to take advantage of continuing education programs, build new skills and ultimately grow their careers.

Starting in September, Amazon will begin hiring the more than 1,000 full-time positions that will be available at YXU1 at launch. Regular full-time employees at Amazon receive competitive wages as well as medical, vision, and dental coverage and a group RRSP plan.
