Nuclear facilities management firm will shift fuel channels for Bruce Power

KINKARDINE, Ont.—In a deal worth $40 million, Babcock & Wilcox Canada Ltd. will perform fuel channel maintenance on Unit 3 at the Bruce Power nuclear plant during a scheduled shutdown in November.

Kinkardine-based Bruce Power is the largest nuclear facility in North America and second largest in the world, comprised of eight CANDU nuclear reactors with a total output capacity of 7,276 mega-watts.

This will be the third fuel channel maintenance project performed for Bruce Power. In previous projects, 200 channels on the Unit 3 reactor were moved. Under this contract, nearly all of the 480 channels will be shifted in order to bring the reactor back to service after the outage.
