Jennmar builds new facility in Sturgeon Falls
STURGEON FALLS, Ont.—Jennmar, a U.S. maker of mining equipment, has opened its first Canadian plant in Sturgeon Falls, Ont.
The $6.38-million facility is producing materials to reinforce underground mine and tunnel roofs.
Jennmar expects the plant will create 80 jobs.
“The jobs include material handlers and assembly operators, but the bulk of it is process machine operators,” says Rob Gagnon, sales representatives with Jennmar of Canada.
The new 60,000 sq.ft facility is located on a nine acres of land in Sturgeon Falls, which is near the mining communities of North Bay and Sudbury.
He says the property backs onto the railway, which should lower shipping costs.
Mining and related sectors are entering “a new era” marked by a surge in demand for their products, according to a report released last week by PwC.
Revenues for the world’s 40 largest miners leapt to a record $435 billion last year, it said.
