Factory worker killed in accident at Russel Metals subsidiary in Milwaukee

The worker was crushed by a steel plate when a magnet failed in an overhead crane, local media report

MILWAUKEE, Wis.—A worker has been killed in an accident at a Canadian-owned plant in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Mississauga, Ont.-based Russel Metals Inc., a major metal processor and distributor, reported the death at its Williams Bahcall facility on the city’s south end Oct. 18.

The company said the worker was an 18-year veteran of the company, but released few other details. It said it is working closely with authorities to determine the cause of the accident.

Meanwhile, citing a report from the area’s medical examiner, local media reported the worker was crushed when an overhead crane failed. According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel the worker was using a magnetic crane to lift a large steel plate when one of the magnets failed, causing the metal to fall.
