Canadian company to build 52 electric trains for Paris-area transit authority
BERLIN—Bombardier Inc.’s rail division has won a US$370 million deal to build dozens of Francilien electric commuter trains for Paris-area transit operator Syndicat des transports d’Île-de-France, or STIF.
The contract covers 52 new multi-car electric trains, more commonly known as EMUs, which can carry up to 1,000 passengers each.
“The Francilien, specially designed and manufactured for the Ile-de-France at our site in Crespin, Hauts-de-France, is a reliable, high performing train that meets ongoing challenges experienced in such densely populated areas”, Laurent Bouyer, president of the company’s Transportation division in France, said.
The fresh order is part of a 2006 call off contract with state-owned rail firm Société nationale des chemins de fer français for up to 372 trains.
Bombardier said it will begin delivering the trains in early 2018.
