Husky brings second well online at White Rose extension site

Two wells expected to produce 15,000 barrels per day while company, regulator investigate gas leak
CALGARY—Husky Energy has commenced production from a second oil well at the South White Rose extension drill centre off the coast of Newfoundland and Labrador.
The company said the two wells are expected to produce a net peak production of 15,000 barrels per day. South White Rose is Husky’s second major subsea tieback following the North Amethyst subsea project in 2010.
“This satellite extension aligns with our long-term strategy to extend the life of the main White Rose field through staged step-outs,” CEO Asim Ghosh, said.
The company is also working to advance its assessment of subsea and wellhead platform concepts for development of the West White Rose extension. Husky said the project is expected to begin production in the “2020-plus” timeframe, subject to ongoing review and final approvals.
Meanwhile, the company, as well as the Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board, are currently investigating a major hydrocarbon gas leak that occurred at the company’s southern drill centre last week.
