Husky starts steam processing at second Sunrise oilsands plant

Company hopes to ramp up facility to full production by end of 2016
CALGARY—Husky Energy has taken another step towards increasing production at the Sunrise oilsands operations, 60 kilometres northeast of Fort McMurray, Alta.
The Calgary-based company says the second of two processing plants at Sunrise has begun steam operations, to soften the gooey bitumen for extraction.
The first plant at Sunrise began bitumen production in mid-March and the second is expected to begin production by the end of this year.
Husky says it expects to steadily ramp up Sunrise towards full capacity by the end of 2016.
At full capacity, Sunrise is designed to produce 60,000 barrels per day of bitumen, which will be sent to Toledo, Ohio, for refining.
The Sunrise Energy Project is 50 per cent owned by Husky and 50 per cey by BP.
