OTTAWA—Vale Canada Ltd. has increased its support of Skills/Compétences Canada (SCC) with a two-year sponsorship agreement with Skills Manitoba, the SCC national secretariat, and its Member Organizations in Newfoundland and Labrador, and Ontario

“Skills Canada is very pleased to partner with Vale to increase awareness of the need for skilled trade workers in the mining industry and also to highlight the many great career opportunities that are available within this field,” said Shaun Thorson, Chief Executive Officer of Skills Canada.

Vale’s increased sponsorship commitment includes:

  • Gold Level partner of Skills Canada Ontario In-School Presentation Programs, and exhibit space at the Ontario Technological Skills Competition;
  • Education Partner of Skills Canada Newfoundland and Labrador’s In-School Presentation Programs, Skills Work for Women (SWFW) Conferences, Intermediate and Provincial Competitions and Annual Skilled Career Day;
  • Platinum Partner of Skills Canada Manitoba’s In-School Program Presentations, Young Women’s Conference, and Skilled Trades and Technology Showcase;
  • Official Sponsor of the 2015 WorldSkills Team Canada.

“When Vale invests in programs that support awareness of and exposure to skilled trades and technology, we not only invest in a more prosperous and sustainable future for our children and youth in this country, but we also know that we’ll see a return on the investment for our company”, said Cory McPhee, vice-president of corporate affairs at Vale.
