Railpool to take delivery of as many as 65 TRAXX locomotives from Bombardier Transportation

BERLIN—Bombardier Inc. said its rail manufacturing division has signed a deal worth as much as US$340 million with a rail leasing company for 65 of its TRAXX locomotives.

According to the transportation giant, Railpool GmbH signed the deal this week for the delivery of 35 TRAXX locomotives an an option for as many as 30 more.

The first call-off for 35 train engines is worth roughly US$184 million based on list prices.

Bombardier said the locomotives will operate on a new east-west corridor linking Poland and the Netherlands, as well as in Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Hungary and Romania.

“With this contract we continue our successful partnership with Bombardier and are able to offer our customers the proven TRAXX locomotives concept,” Railpool chief executive Torsten Lehnert said in a statement issued by Bombardier.

“Furthermore, we are developing with Bombardier new corridors and are upgrading our existing fleet with new safety systems, to follow our customers’ demands as a reliable partner for the future.”

The locomotives will be assembled in Kassel, Germany, while carbodies will be built at Bombardier’s Wroclaw site in Poland and bogies in Siegen, Germany.

Propulsion and control equipment will be manufactured at Bombardier’s sites in Mannheim and Hennigsdorf, Germany, and Västeras, Sweden.
