HYPER technology converts exhaust heat from trucks into power source for on-board HVAC systems
TORONTO—An Ontario firm is getting a $250,000 booster shot as it looks to commercialize an innovative system that converts exhaust heat from trucks into an onboard power source.
Ontario Centres of Excellence (OCE) is making the investment in Bolton, Ont.-based EnerMotion Inc. to help expand the market reach of its Hybrid Power and Energy Recovery (HYPER) technology—a system that converts exhaust heat from trucks and other large-engine vehicles into a power source for on-board heating and air conditioning systems.
“EnerMotion’s innovation represents a significant accomplishment with tremendous global market potential,” OCE president and chief executive Dr. Tom Corr said in a statement.
“HYPER is a real game-changer in the transportation industry and OCE is proud to be supporting this made-in-Ontario product.”
The technology works by capturing waste exhaust heat from vehicles to power an heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) system that works while the vehicle is operating and eliminates engine idling while stationary.
The company’s first market application for HYPER is in tractor-trailer type, Class 8 heavy trucks.
OCE made the investment through its Market Readiness 3 and Special Energy Fund programs.
