Linde Canada to supply Ont crumb rubber plant

Mississauga, Ont: Linde Canada has signed a long-term agreement to supply liquid nitrogen to Liberty Tire and Rubber’s Brenner, Ont. plant. The multi-year deal is for an undisclosed amount.

Liberty Tire, a US and Canadian crumb rubber producer, will use the liquid nitrogen to make a special grade of crumb rubber that adds cushioning in a variety of sports surfaces, such as fields and running tracks. Liquid nitrogen is used to freeze tire chips through a process called cryogenic grinding. Once the chips are cooled, they are cut to smaller sizes and ground in an impact-type reduction device.

Linde Canada is an affiliate of Linde North America, which is a member of The Linde Group. The gases and engineering company already has an agreement to supply liquid nitrogen to Liberty Tire’s US crumb rubber plant in Braddock, Pennsylvania.

Liberty Tire CEO Jeff Kendall said that he looked forward to extending the contract to include the Brenner plant and identifying new opportunities in the future.
