BURLINGTON, Ont.—A truck carrying pigs to a slaughterhouse has overturned in Burlington, Ont., releasing some of the animals onto city streets.

Police say the truck was on its way to the nearby Fearmans pork plant when it crashed around 7:30 a.m.

Some pigs managed to escape but the majority remained trapped in the truck.

Photos posted on Twitter showed the truck completely on its side, follow #oinkescape to see some of the images.

The area has been partially closed to traffic as emergency crews investigate.
