SMS Equipment, a Canadian heavy equipment dealer based in Acheson, announced on Jan. 22 it has acquired Suomen Rakennuskone Oy, a leading Finnish distributor of construction and mining machinery, marking its first expansion into Europe.
Robin Heard, SMS Equipment president and CEO, said the acquisition will help the company extend its expertise in global mining and construction while strengthening its value to customers. Suomen Rakennuskone Oy, founded in 1992 and headquartered in Pirkkala, operates branches across Finland and is the country’s exclusive dealer of Komatsu equipment.
The Finnish company provides sales, maintenance, parts, training and technical support for heavy equipment, serving key sectors such as nickel, gold, cobalt and lithium mining. Jared Collins, managing director of Suomen Rakennuskone Oy, said the deal combines SMS Equipment’s global experience with local knowledge and customer relationships.

ACHESON — On Jan. 22 Canadian heavy equipment dealer SMS Equipment announced its expansion into Europe with the acquisition of Suomen Rakennuskone Oy, one of Finland’s leading distributors of construction and mining machinery.
