GUELPH — Bioenterprise Canada names 15 recipients of funding from the first round of its Sustainable Growth and Adoption Program (SGAP). The food and agri-technology businesses in southern Ontario have received the funding to implement clean technology and sustainability process enhancements.

“As businesses strive to remain competitive, innovations and their adoption can play a major role in cost reduction and increased efficiency. More than ever, programs like the Sustainable Growth and Adoption Program can be highly impactful in driving long-term competitiveness of our agriculture and food sectors,” said Dave Smardon, CEO at Bioenterprise.

The program is funded through a $5.95 million investment from the Government of Canada via the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario). Eligible recipients receive between $40,000 and $100,000 in non-repayable contributions for project-based activities focused on reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving efficiency.

“Bioenterprise Canada plays a vital role in supporting Canada’s agri-food sector by delivering the innovative programming, tools, and resources that Canadian companies need to grow and compete. In challenging economic times, it’s more important than ever to back the businesses that feed our communities and drive sustainable growth. Our government is proud to support the success of Canadian agri-food companies as they adopt greener practices and build a strong, resilient future for our country,” said Evan Solomon, minister responsible for the FedDev for Southern Ontario.
