Feds looking to dole out $50M to fund cleantech projects in oil and gas sector

Natural Resources Canada to help companies build demonstration projects, undertake engineering studies for next-gen oil sands technologies

OTTAWA—The Canadian government is looking hand out $50 million to support companies developing cleantech solutions for the oil and gas sector.
Natural Resources Canada has officially launched a call for proposals for its Gas Clean Tech Program, which will fund research and development on technologies such as next-generation oil sands extraction and advanced emissions detection, monitoring and mitigation systems.
“Investing in innovative cleaner oil and gas technologies will help Canada sustainably develop our natural resources and improve our global competitiveness,” Jim Carr, Canada’s minister of Natural Resources, said.
Aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions and creating clean economy jobs, the program will fund demonstration projects that cost a minimum of $5 million or front-end engineering design (FEED) studies worth at least $300,000.
The government will accept proposals until Sept. 7.
