Eurocopter shows off new offshore helicopter in eastern Canada

11-ton EC225 can seat up to 24 people, has 30-minute dry run capability, according to company

ST. JOHN’S, N.L.—Eurocopter Canada Ltd. brought its EC225 model to Newfoundland this week to show of the latest addition to its Super Puma line of helicopters.

Popular with the offshore oil and gas industry for transport and search and rescue operations, the 11-ton EC225 can seat up to 24 people and features more power, increased payload, longer range and faster cruise speed.

According to Eurocopter, the EC225 has max flight endurance of five hours.

It also features two TURBOMECA MAKILA 2A turboshaft engines with a 30-minute dry run capability, and a new five-blade Spheriflex main rotor with improved blade profile that allows the chopper to fly in icy conditions without limitation.
