Company looks to spring construction start as federal regulatory approval process continues

OTTAWA—GrowPros Cannabis Ventures Inc. has begun the permitting process with local and provincial authorities for its proposed 50,000 square-foot marijuana production facility north of Ottawa.

The company hopes to break ground on the facility, located in Venosta, Que., this spring, despite uncertainties that remain surrounding the status of its Marihuana for Medical Purposes Regulations (MMPR) application the company submitted to Health Canada in Nov. 2014.

“As a company and in consultation with our major shareholders, we believe that proceeding with the construction of our production facility will place GrowPros in the strongest strategic position possible as the federal government continues to move into a period of regulatory restructuring of Canada’s Cannabis laws,” the company’s CEO, Ryan Brown, said.

As it looks to the facility’s construction, it also continues to work through the MMPR application process with federal regulators. The company said previously it is “encouraged by the recent granting of licenses” and outlined to investors the process is a long and thorough one.

“Management believes that constructing a state of the art cannabis production facility in compliance with the current MMPR physical security and public safety regulations will provide GrowPros and its shareholders with a great asset moving forward,” Brown added.
