
Man dead after fall from drilling rig in northwestern Alberta

CALGARY—A man is dead after falling from a drilling rig in northwestern Alberta.
According to Calmena Energy Services Inc., the man, 32, was drilling surface holes on a Birchcliff Energy Ltd. lease on the Alberta side of the British Columbia border, about 500 kilometres northwest of Edmonton, when he fell from the equipment.
Operations at the rig, owned and operated by Calmena, were suspended, and RCMP and Work Safe Alberta were contacted.
Both organizations are conducting investigations into the incident.

Calmena says the victim’s family has been notified.
