HARBOUR GRACE, N.L.—The government of Newfoundland and Labrador says it is working with the town of Harbour Grace to bring another industry to the community after the closure of a local boot factory.

Kodiak Group Holdings Co., which operates the facility, announced in the summer it was moving operations to Cambridge, Ont.

The doors at Terra Nova Shoes closed Nov. 27 as the last workers were sent home.

Liberal MPP Sam Slade, who represents the area in the legislature, says some of the 80 employees have worked at the factory since the 1970s and now find themselves jobless.

Business Minister Darin King says retraining is being offered to the former employees.

Harbour Grace, which has a population of about 3,100 people, is located more than an hour’s drive from St. John’s.
