Maplehurst Bakeries, a subsidiary of Weston Foods, is buying the Nashville-based cake maker for an undisclosed sum

TORONTO—A subsidiary of Weston Foods Inc. is buying United States-based Creative Occasions Inc., a manufacturer of decorated cakes, for an undisclosed sum.

The purchase by Maplehurst Bakeries LLC is expected to close by the end of January 2015.

“This strategic acquisition adds talented people, high quality new products and capability to our growing cake portfolio,” George Weston spokesperson Kevin McDonough said of the acquisition of Creative Occasions, whose products are sold throughout the U.S.

“This acquisition supports Weston Foods’ commitment to continue to grow and offer best-in-class, innovative and quality bakery products to the North American market,” added McDonough, president of Weston Foods’ froze and biscuit divisions.

Maplehurst Bakeries, with products sold across North America, currently operates facilities in Washington, New Hampshire, New York, Georgia, Illinois and Indiana.

It is a subsidiary of Weston Foods, part of the George Weston Ltd. group of companies that includes the Loblaw Co. Ltd. chain of grocery stores.
