Specialty Polymer Coatings makes high-performance coatings for pipelines

MEDINA, Ohio—RPM International Inc., an American manufacturer of coatings, sealants and building materials, has struck a deal to buy Langley, B.C.’s Specialty Polymer Coatings Inc. (SPC) for an undisclosed amount.

The Canadian company’s business revolves around making high-performance coatings for the oil and gas pipeline industry. Along with its head office outside Vancouver, SPC has a manufacturing plant in Brantford, Ont. and a warehouse in Angleton, Texas. Though RPM did not disclose the value of the deal, it said SPC has approximately $26 million in net annual sales.

Frank Sullivan, RPM’s chairman and CEO said the deal will build on the company’s position in the pipeline market.

After the deal closes, SPC will operate as an independent business within the Medina, Ohio-based company’s Performance Coatings Group.
