Coalition supports Ford government's decision to keep key manufacturing sector open and operating through lockdown.

TORONTO — The Coalition of Concerned Manufacturers and Businesses of Canada is encouraged to hear that the Ford government has exercised restraint in the measures put forward to stop further spread of Covid-19.

“The announcement to keep manufacturing operating in a safe manner while protecting our workers and allowing the supply chains to continue to continue will save jobs for the Ontario workers,” said Jocelyn Bamford, President of the Coalition.

“We join the Ford government in their efforts to call for Ontarians to practice hand washing, masks and social distancing protocols. The Coalition believes that citizens can work together to prevent the spread of Covid 19 through social responsibility versus government-imposed lockdowns.” said Bamford.

John Galt, CEO of Husky Injection Molding Systems added “I appreciate the Premier is recognizing the importance of essential businesses by allowing them to remain open with the appropriate precautions in place. That recognition is an acknowledgement of the importance of Ontario’s manufacturing sector in protecting the lives and livelihoods of Canadians.”

Vice President of the Coalition Peter Gossmann voiced his support saying “Shutting down our economy may have greater consequences than the virus itself. It is possible that in terms of the delay of normal health care needs the toll would be greater, including the death toll. We commend the Ford government with their balanced approach with this new directive.”
