The investment will convert the facility to a panel and siding mill, adding about 40 jobs

SWAN VALLEY, Man.—Changes are coming to a mill in Swan Valley, Man., and it means a big investment and more jobs.

The Louisiana-Pacific Corp., based in Nashville, is investing $95 million on the project.

It will convert the strand board facility in Swan Valley into a mill that will produce panel and lap siding for use in homes, businesses and industrial facilities.

It’s the company’s first siding mill in Canada and will add about 40 jobs to the existing 160 member workforce at the operation.

The changeover will start this summer and is expected to be complete by the end of the year.

Plant manager Kevin Betcher says the decision is “a testament to the people who work here,” noting staff have more than 19 years of experience in manufacturing OSB from a safety, quality, environmental and manufacturing perspective.
