Damage to manufacturing plant floors is all too common in rigorous industrial environments. The situation often poses safety and productivity hazards, especially when forklifts—which need a smooth operating surface—are involved.

That was the challenge faced by a soft drink manufacturing and bottling company. Concerned with forklift safety on its deteriorating concrete floors, the company sought a fast-curing concrete repair product to provide a long-term fix to damaged floors and avoid delaying traffic flow in the plant.

With the damaged floors, operators were finding heavy soft drinks loads were at risk of toppling when being moved by material handling equipment. Standard concrete was considered as a solution, but requires up to three days for the patch to fully cure.

Wanting to avoid extensive downtime, the company found a better solution in using LOCTITE PC 9410 Magna-Crete , a high-strength, rapid setting concrete repair solution available from Henkel. The material’s many best-in-class features make it a top choice for a wide range of repair applications.

A strong and simple solution

Loctite PC 9410 Magna-Crete bonds to concrete, wood, glass, steel and other construction materials. It’s resistant to most common liquids and chemicals, with the exception of acids, and offers high impact resistance and high compression strength. The material does not shrink, crack, freeze or thaw.

In the case of the soft drink manufacturer, staff first prepared the floors by using a hammer drill to remove loose material. Feathered edges of the damaged area were cut down to a depth of half an inch to improve the adhesive strength of the patch to the old
concrete. A trowel was used to apply and smooth the Loctite PC 9410 Magna Crete.

The repaired floors could be returned to normal forklift traffic in less than 30 minutes. The Henkel maintenance solution saved the company valuable production time by minimizing downtime.

The Loctite PC 9410 Magna Crete solution has high adhesion and compressive strength, providing for a long-lasting floor repair. These properties cut the complete floor repair project from a potential three-day job to just three hours. Maintenance costs and the impact on normal production are also significantly reduced.

Beyond concrete floors, Loctite PC 9410 Magna-Crete excels in a wide range of applications. It can be used to repair manufacturing, storage and shipping floors, ramps and loading docks, commercial freezers, highways, roadways and highway dividers, runways, bridge decks, parking lots and more.

For example, Loctite PC 9410 Magna-Crete made it possible for just two men to repair a pier wall in one day. In another application, a bridge overpass was successfully repaired in cold weather because Magna-Crete does not shrink, crack, freeze or thaw. In another application, it was used to repair the support beam in an underground garage.

Magna-Crete is available in multiple sizes, from a one gallon kit that covers 170 cubic inches, up to 55 gallon drums for larger areas up to 3,564 cubic inches.
